It is nice to have the work going on smoothly, but more often than not challenges arise at a molecular biology laboratory. Finding solutions to those challenges is what I feel passion for. Collecting data is enjoyable, but overcoming a molecular biology obstacle enables us moving forward. When faced with a difficult task I carefully go over the work stages as follows. Starting from clarifying the theoretical basis of the initial idea or problem, thinking about how it fits into the bigger picture of knowledge. What is known, what can be assumed, are there any contradictions. These are some of the questions to discuss with a colleague. Ideally this conversation will bring up different perspectives on the problem in hand and lead to an alternative ways to answer the question. The experimental results obtained from the assay can be used to further refine the question.Next I move on to design an experimental set up that aligns with the established task. The conceived assay needs to be optimized and implemented. This is the stage that I have been mostly exposed to. For instance, reviling that zinc ions cause precipitation of the protein and so needs to be removed from the solution. Or that the nuclear localization of a reference gene gives more reliable results in cell based reporter assay when analyzing the activity of a transcription factor. At the stage of assay optimization it is advantages to work as a team. This speeds up the work by enabling simultaneously to explore different roads. Working together for a common goal also helps to minimize the frustration coming from jet non-working assay. This is an example of a workflow that I have applied in fields of Cancer Biology, Cell Signalling, Cell and Molecular Biology, Cell Cultures, Recombinant Proteins, Supervising, Methodology Validation and Accreditation, and more.I have published in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to the writing of grant applications.I have presented scientific data in National/International conferences and 50+ in-house seminars.Apart from lab, I love nature, hiking, swimming, reading.Let’s have a conversation –tsanev.robert@gmail.com
