I am an experienced optical engineer with expertise and skills in the use of commercially licensed optical codes for optical design and analysis. These include ZEMAX for optical design, tolerance analysis, systems modeling and non-sequential raytracing. The use of FRED for non-sequential optical modeling, straylight and scatter analysis, and coherent beam analysis. I am a skilled user of MATLAB and Python for numerical modeling and scientific programming with some experience in c# and c++. I consider myself to be a solid team player and a strong communicator.My interests and specialties lie in the intersection of optical design, systems optimization and numerical analysis and modeling. I enjoy imaging and non-imaging problems that require developing unique and novel figures-of-merit and the challenge through with a systems optimization to achieve the required performance. I see the predicted optical system performance analysis, and associated tolerance and sensitivity analysis as an essential component of the optical design. I am fortunate to have worked with large optical systems such as the Daniel K. Inoue Solar Telescope (DKIST), the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), the Near Infra Red Camera (NIRCam) and Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT), as well as smaller scale consumer products. I also have demonstrated skills and experience in the optical design and optimization of Volume Phase Bragg gratings and light engines for Near Eye applications.
