Culham

Task Leader of the EUROFusion Radioactive Waste Management tasks related to a future fusion power plant (DEMO). Based at the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy in Culham, UK. EUROFusion represents the European consortium for the development of fusion energy. Writing of technical reports and undertaking R&D work to satisfy the radioactive waste objectives of the EUROfusion programme and other research work that the Waste Management Group are responsible for. Recent examples include detritiation techniques for different material types and studying the feasibility of recycling irradiated materials arising from a DEMO fusion power plant.Leading the research programme in radioactive waste management, collaborating with different research units to achieve the objects of the waste management tasks for DEMO. Authoring the waste management volume of the generic site safety report for a future DEMO reactor. Detailing a strategy for waste management from the reactor intended to support a future licensing decision. Leading the UKAEA contribution towards H2020 project TRANSAT looking at tritium issues related to the fission and fusion industries. Tasks focussed on soft waste measurement for tritium content and permeation of tritium through container materials. Preparation of bids to secure funding for research grants for nuclear fusion and fission based projects.
