Just prior to my retirement and shortly afterwards, a facilities director, a building manager (for Westside Research Park) and several workers were hired to perform my various duties. After training some of these replacements, I am no longer on UCSC payroll however I am available as a resource as needed. It was great to see UCSC Baskin School of Engineering facilities group expand staffing to better support the teaching and research mission of the University.

University Of California Santa Cruz

Area director for research and instructional laboratory infrastructure and planning within the Jack Baskin School of Engineering (BSOE). Also supervisor of instructional laboratory staff and receiving services staff. I supervise four direct reports which includes two development engineers, one supervisor who has 2 direct reports and a number of undergraduate student staff and graduate student researcher employeesResponsible for planning and management support of facilities infrastructure for BSOE which is physically located at three separate locations; (1) on the Main UCSC Campus; (2) at the former Texas Instruments Fabrication Plant at 2300 Delaware Street Santa Cruz Westside and (3) at UCSC Silicon Valley Campus located at 3175 Bowers Ave, Santa Clara, CA. The Jack Baskin School of Engineering occupies 172,500 square feet of space in 8 buildings. Spaces range from Biological Safety Level 1 and 2 Research Laboratories, Materials Research Laboratories with Class 1000 and 10,000 clean rooms, Four Computer Data Centers, a few makers space-like shops and significant numbers of computer labs and offices.

Management and supervision over information technology group supporting the Jack Baskin School of Engineering. Group designed, installed, maintained and operated the servers, desktops, networking, data centers, software portfolio for all faculty, researchers, students and staff in the Jack Baskin School of Engineering.

Monterey, California

Operated and maintained several electronic engineering labs for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Operations including writing and teaching graduate level laboratories for Radio Frequency, Microwave Systems and Antenna Engineering. Maintained all lab computers and specialized CAD software for design and simulation of these systems to include Matlab, Labview, Hewlett Packard EEsof, Agilient Advance Design System (ADS) and Agilent High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS). Developed and maintained an indoor computerized antenna test range that used HP 8510C Vector Network Analyzers interconnected to antenna rotation and computers all controlled via National Instruments Labview software which I wrote. Operated, maintained and made test measurements using Vector Network Analyzers, Scalar Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers sometimes for signals that were transient in nature. Maintained and operated outdoor antenna test ranges, developed portable test packages for field testing of RF propagation. Conducted research experiments and computer simulations for low observables (Stealth), microwave power transfer. Acted as a teaching assistant for Professors teaching short courses in computational electromagnetics, antenna design, RF/microwave circuit design.

Mare Island Naval Shipyard

Lead design engineer for underwater sensor systems including deep sea television camera systems with specialized lighting.

Test Engineer for shipboard interior communications, sensor systems. Wrote acceptance tests, supported testing by electricians and electronics technicians, reviewed and approved results. Resolved deficient conditions by design memos and change orders with design groups on site and at Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters.
