I have over 30 years experience in the design and development of adult education, specializing in simulation-based training. I have been involved in large-scale multi-agency national and international exercises including the Vancouver Olympic emergency exercise program. Currently, I am the Director at the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Innovation at the Justice Institute of British Columbia, Canada’s leading public safety educator.I was responsible for the design and development of Praxis, an online, team-based learning system that focuses on decision-making simulations. It moves beyond traditional "click-through", role-playing, and tabletop exercises by providing an immersive environment that emphasizes collaboration, information sharing and immediate feedback. Praxis was awarded the “Excellence and Innovation in Overall Use of Technology for Learning and Teaching”, from the Canadian Network for Innovation in Education.My educational background includes a Degree in Educational Technologies and a Masters Degree in Disaster and Emergency Management. Professional training includes the Master Exercise Practitioner Program from Public Safety Canada in collaboration with U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency and forensic video analysis certification through LEVA at the FBI Academy.I developed and have taught courses in Emergency Management Planning, Preparedness, Response and Recovery within the Emergency and Security Management Degree Program and the Exercise Design Certificate Program at the Justice Institute of British Columbia.
