My current role has been focused on unconventional petroleum systems modeling, regional evaluation, and play scale mapping/screening for unconventionals. My oil and gas career began with two internships. The first was with EnCana Oil and Gas in Denver focused on identifying the down-dip potential of a producing field in the Permian Basin. The second was with BHP Billiton’s Asia New Venture team where I supported access decisions in the South China Sea with paleogeographic reconstructions and play fairway analysis. After joining BHP Billiton Petroleum’s graduate program my first team was responsible for the subsurface development of the offshore Scarborough and Thebe fields. My contribution was to map out and assess the contribution of a regional turbidite aquifer using a 2D seismic stratigraphic approach.My next assignment was in Asia Exploration. My work involved determining reservoir potential of fractured basement in our Vietnam acreage using 3D seismic stratigraphy, seismic attributes, well data, and outcrop data. It also involved exploration well planning, supporting farm-in and farm-out decisions, and regional work for Vietnam and the Philippines. I also functioned as a well-site and operations geologist offshore and in the Ho Chi Minh City office for one exploration well. After BHP Billiton acquired the Fayetteville shale, I moved into a new team tasked with building a production unit from scratch, while maintaining operations. I was focused on building geoscience best practices for development planning, well planning, and well execution; while actively managing these activities for up to three rigs at a time. From there I joined a new team of geoscience specialists responsible for creating technical workflows on source rock fluid prediction and sweet spot definition in shales. I worked mainly on 1D burial and thermal modeling and on helping integrate petrophysics with basin model outputs.
