I have spent most of my life in education, specifically College and University education, as student, professor of American Literature, and administrator. After 26 years at the University of Michigan, I led the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation and Drew University.I recently served as a project adviser to the American Historical Association on an initiative concerning diverse careers for PhD.s in History and the humanities beyond the academy and coauthored a report on doctoral education for the Andrew Mellon Foundation. I continue to serve as a trustee of Skidmore College. I am currently directing Robert Weisbuch and Associates, a consultancy for colleges and universities on planning, curricular innovation and resource-sharing, all with an eye to attracting engaged students to intellectually and socially compelling campuses. Our 17 university presidents, provosts, and trustees represent 1000 years of higher ed experience. Activities include overall planning, curriculum and program development with an eye to making colleges more compelling for potential students, faculty development, and higher education administration. We seek to match the intellectual expertise of faculty with the interests of students and the intellectual interests of students with a range of meaningful careers.
