A start-up optics company located in San Francisco. The mission of Mirada Technologies is to design durable high precision (Lidar) sensors for self-driving cars and trucks. While there I experimented with prototype Lidar units, seal design, and the compatibility of various lubricants. The name Mirada Technologies means to look or see in Spanish. During this internship I:Designed and preform testing protocols.Contacted part distributors across the country.Measured the quality and resolution of optical components.

Matson is among one of the largest shipping companies that are based in the U.S. While there, I assisted in the maintenance and operations of a 216-meter long vessel, called the Matson Tacoma. Some of the work included:• Preparing the 17,000 BHP main engine for start-up and shut down. • Servicing ship machinery. (Hydraulics, pneumatic, Piping, Diesel Engines, and Steam systems.)• Balancing the ship by adjusting ballast water.• Starting up, load balancing, and shutting down diesel generators.

The Training cruise is one of many opportunities for engineering students to learn disciple, responsibility, and the operation of complex electromechanical systems.Some tasked included:Practiced firefighting during emergency drills.Stood engine watch and performed watch duties. Deconstruction and repair of oil purifiers.Operated the reverse osmosis water purification system.Disassembled and reassembled Kubota tractor engines
