Profile bio

About Bob Whittaker, Ed.D.

Collaborative leader who helps teams, organizations, and communities reach previously unforeseen levels of accomplishment. Systems thinker with expertise in organizational, network, and community development complemented by a tested ability to navigate complexity. Innovator who sees and actualizes opportunities often invisible to others. Proven friend- and fund-raiser. Emotionally fluent communicator, advocate of continuous improvement, and champion of equity. With more than 10 years of experience as a higher education senior leader – one driving interest of mine has been to reverse the unacceptably low post-educational-attainment rates endemic to rural communities across the country. The other has been to do so in a systemic way that is responsive to and in collaboration with employers in need of middle- and high-skilled talent. My proudest accomplishments towards these ends have been leading the design and implementation of regional education-to-career pathways, the management of corresponding partnership networks, and securing the requisite funding from individual and institutional funders to advance this work.Too often, the prevalence of a competitive mindset – motivated by perceived obstacles such as resource scarcity – can inhibit the type of collaborative advantage necessary to enable resource alignment across the commercial, nonprofit, and public sectors. Such alignment is necessary to erode away the systemic barriers that keep too many students from discovering and realizing their full potential. I pursued my doctorate in organizational leadership, with a focus on collaborative leadership, to broaden my understanding of how to best nurture and sustain collective action and resource alignment across the major economic sectors. My studies, research, and professional practice have prepared me to help facilitate the type of cross-sector collaboration that can measurably address persistent public problems like unacceptably low educational attainment rates and the erosion of trust in instutions, and the deterioration of civil discourse.

Listed skills include Fundraising, Community Relations, Change Management, Community Development, and 19 others.

Built a network of partners who share an interest in addressing unmet behavioral and mental health needs of marginalized populations. William James College's faculty and students and forging new paths of clinical and organizational practice through innovative programs that are re-shaping the field, such as: - Train Vets to Treat Vets, a pioneering program created to expand the number of mental health professionals who understand warrior culture and are better suited to guide and support veterans, families, and caregivers as they re-acclimate to their post-combat life.- Diversifying the Mental Health Workforce, a range of initiatives formed in response to the fact that ~90% of mental health professionals are white, non-Hispanic. This under-representation in the field perpetuates the disproportionately high number of underrepresented populations who suffer from untreated mental illness.
