Lead and manage the design process for large mill and kiln gears, pinions and foundry products adhering to the applicable industry standards such as AGMA, ASTM, DIN, ISO, ASME, ANSI and AWS. Design pinions, both through hardened and surface hardened (carburized). Design gears, both 2-part fabricated and up to 6-part cast gears. Also design solid and 2-part hub mounted hoist gears.Hold production meetings with multiple functions as new orders are placed.Review all work requirements, order specifications and quality documents with sales and the manufacturing engineers. Design parts to meet required gear set ratings per AGMA 6014-A06. Determine gear tooth geometry with tooth modifications to maximize tooth contact under load. Create quality documentation, ITP based on customer provided specifications. Review documentation for accuracy and completeness following order completion.Participate in Kaizan process improvement decisions by monitoring order process flow through the Engineering department to improve efficiency and on time delivery. Develop computer programs to automate order processing and improve information consistency and accuracy.Specialized events:Wrote a pinion drawing creation program (VB6 interface for SolidWorks)Pioneering design of the first 6-part ring gear manufactured at Rexnord (521.990” outside diameter x 40.00” face width x 442.91” bore; 210,310lbs finished weight)Designed large 3-web fabricated double helical hub gear (146.150” outside diameter x 56.00” face width x 27.00 bore)Participate in the hiring process for new a engineer, which includes being involved in the hiring decision. Responsible for training all new design engineers on the programs, process and products. Audit all orders for errors as well as help facilitate projects and orders through while in the training phase. Utilize strong problem solving skills with difficult projects and orders to meet client needs and specifications.
