Facing Tides Theatre is a theatre-in-education company delivering performances and workshops focusing on the harmful effects of addictions and topics associated with this illness.It is our aim to provide audiences with professional active learning experiences.Our vision is to work with audiences of all ages and social backgrounds by producing drama that stimulates discussion and insight.The initiative is to break open taboos and stigmas associated with addictive behaviours and allow opportunities to talk openly about these issues.Through drama and workshops we will:Offer the chance to explore the subject of addiction;Enable participants to express fears in a safe environment;Provide professional help and resources for participants and associated others in understanding addiction;Highlight the valuable work of charities such as Action on Addiction, National Association of Children Of Alcoholics and Others.Our first drama, 'Off Her Facebook!' portrays the Higgins family as they try to cope with an alcoholic father. We follow an eighteen-year-old girl, Laura Higgins and the sense of conflict in a family caught up in the web of addiction. Damaged Goods - which addresses issues of drug use, running away from home, suicide and risks associated with these and homelessness - follows the story of Jamie, a troubled teenager struggling to make the right choices. Gridluck! covers subject matter more suitable for over 15's. The subjects being adrenaline addiction and human trafficking. It follows two characters from Damaged Goods, and their struggle for reconciliation and survival. Sparrow's Share is in pre-production. It is, if you will, the fourth part to The Big 'A' Trilogy. It is Kate's story. We find out what happened to Kate after Off Her Facebook! and what happened before....Whilst the subject matter is of a serious nature there is a sense of hope which is explored through workshops following each performance.
