Founded in 1991, SIUrO is an Italian not for profit scientific society aimed to disseminate the multidisciplinary approach in managing patients affected by urological neoplasia through, residential courses and national meetings, publications, research projects.Responsibilities include:Developing and supervising educational activity, projects and courses for Urologists, Medical Oncologists and Radiation Oncologists to improve the multidisciplinary management of patients affected by genitourinary neoplasia, coordinating research protocols related to psychological dimensions, coordinating and supervising the activities of the Scientific Secretariat.Achievements: successfully activated courses on Patient Doctor Communication, Doctor-Doctor Communication and courses dedicated to the core-curriculum for uro-oncologists

In 2007 SIUrO started the process to be accredited by DNV (Det Norske Veritas), for the Quality Management System for the processes involved in the organization of educational activities. Responsibilities include: supervising the organization of the Association’s annual conference, maintaining the certified Quality Standards by ensuring that national meetings and courses are organized and delivered in accordance with quality standards and the decisions and recommendations of accreditation bodies, and within established timeframes.Achievements:• Successfully completed the Quality accreditation process and obtained the certificate in 2009• Introduction of the patient-doctor communication issue as a new topic for SIUrO’s educational activity• Introduction of the core-curriculum for Uro-Oncologists.

The School of Urology of the Department of Anestesiology and Surgery Sciences at the University Hospital in Bologna, participated in a founded study (€ 103.291,38) aimed to build a questionnaire for the evaluation of prostate cancer patients’ quality of life (three years fellowship of €46.481,13) Responsabilities:• Designing and leading the university founded study• Designing the questionnaire to assess prostate cancer patients’ quality of life• Developing the database to collect the patients’ data and answers• Analyzing the collected data and performing the statistical analysis to validate the questionnaire (147 subjects participated in this study)• Writing the periodical report for the University scholarship office, with the research project updating the abstracts for Congress presentation Achievements:• The questionnaire was used for further research, conducted between 2003 and 2004 at the Urology Department of the University Hospital in Bologna. • Results were presented at the 13th annual conference of the Italian Society of Uro – Oncology• The research has been accepted as poster presentation at the 9th Annual Conference of the International Society for the Quality of Life Research, Orlando – Florida – USA October 30 – November 2, 2002• The study has been published on Archivio Italiano di Urologia e Andrologia 2003; 75, 4
