  I have retired after nearly twenty seven years as a Social Insurance Specialist (Claims Representative) for the Social Security Administration. I worked in all aspects of Social Security programs with a highly specialized knowledge of the Disability and SSI programs. I was part of the core team tasked with re-designing the Agency's disability forms at our Baltimore headquarters. Our team received a Deputy Comissioner's award for our work. I was always in my element teaching, training and mentoring new Claims Representatives and received numerous awards for that work including two from our Regional Comissioner in Kansas City. I also served as an elected officer in the American Federation of Government Employees from January, 1989 through June, 2014. I have served as President or Chief Steward of Local 3479 for that entire time. I was elected Regional Vice-President and represented offices in our four state region at the national level participating in several national level negotiations. I was trained as an instructor in interest based bargaining techniques. I currently serve as a Steward for Local 1336. I retired from the Agency on July 31, 2014.I took a leading role in organizing the Combined Federal Campaign for the United Way for our office from 1998 to 2012. Our creative and fun campaigns raised over $130,000.00 for United Way charities over those 14 years.
