With the rapid pace of technology change, learning is shifting away from being a nice fringe benefit to being operationally critical. In other words, those who continue to ignore the importance of sharpening their saw will be bypassed in their careers by those who upskill and learn.The main question is, does your culture allow you to take time away from active projects to learn? I have seen companies spend a lot of money to find consultants and temporary workers with specific skill sets. However, if those same companies instead had invested in their existing personal and encouraged and empowered them to learn, projects could have been completed faster by people already committed to the company's mission.I have also seen companies send their workforce home because an on-premise server critical for daily activities crashed. Other companies leveraged the expertise of others and moved systems and data to the cloud. Operating in the cloud allowed these companies to focus on their specialties and customer needs.Are you taking for granted having access to your data when and where you need it? The enemy is the status quo and though we usually recoil at change, we need to have a growth mindset to learn, do and progress.
