Bob has been lead counsel on over a dozen inter partes reviews ("IPR"), including the highly successful Federal Circuit appeal against Apple which placed limits on the PTAB's use of "common sense" to invalidate patents. Bob devotes a significant portion of his practice to patent litigation. In 2016, our $14.6M jury verdict for Exergen was recognized as the fourth highest in the state that year. In another case, Bob whittled down the value of the case through motions and ultimately won a dismissal for our client after the Markman hearing, while the remaining three defendants sought to untangle themselves from the litigation. Specific patent cases have involved technologies including interactive television, power converters, solar cells, microwave antennas, electronic appliances, satellite tuners, robot arms, coffee makers, flame detectors, ACL surgery and infrared thermometers. For example, he handled the ActiveVideo patents successfully asserted in court against Verizon, producing a settlement of over $260M.
