Dr Robert Barnes, Co-CEO of real estate platform, BPX, is an exchange expert of 30 years in financial markets, including as CEO of two successful trading venues, Turquoise (2013-2022) & UBS MTF (2010-2013, while at UBS 1994-2013). His peers voted him The TRADE’s first Industry Person of the Year at its Leaders in Trading Awards, and he received the European Markets Choice Award for Individual Market Recognition in 2022. In 2023, the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment awarded him its highest accolade, an Honorary Fellowship and published his article on digital securities in The Review.Best Execution Magazine describes Dr Barnes as "a leading light and well respected figure on the financial service landscape. He is an expert in market structures, having held a wide range of key advisory and policy roles in financial services, including as Chairman of the Securities Trading Committee of the London Investment Banking Association 2004-2009; FSA’s Capital Markets Senior Practitioner Committee from 2005-2008; European Commission’s Clearing and Settlement Advisory and Monitoring Expert Groups (“CESAME”) 1 & 2 from 2007-2010; FTSE Country Classification Committee from 2007-2016; and Co-Chairman of the EMEA Regional Committee of FIX Trading Community 2014-2016. He founded Anopolis, a specialised advisory boutique in 2013, and serves, since 2021, on the National Timing Centre programme Steering Committee led by the National Physical Laboratory. FCA selected him in 2022 for a two-year term on FCA’s Secondary Markets Advisory Committee and appointed him in 2023 to its Sub-committee on Market Outages.As CEO, Dr Barnes transformed Turquoise into a profitable innovative client-focused organisation, achieving record results and winning industry awards. Dr Barnes started at UBS in 1994 and has extensive and varied experience of leading business and providing strategic direction, having become a Managing Director, Equities, by 2005 and in 2010 became founding CEO of UBS MTF which grew to #1 among peers.
