Effective July 15, 2014, Robert A. Bedore has joined the Chicago law firm Harris Winick Harris LLP to form the firm's new Tax Controversy and Tax Planning practice group, along with his tax partner from Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP, Kenneth L. Harris. Bob and Ken will collaborate, as they have for nearly 15 years, to provide tax counsel and advice to their clients both in tax controversy and tax planning matters. Bob is a tax controversy lawyer with over 34 years of experience representing both business and individual taxpayers, including large multinational public and privately held companies subject to the IRS Large Business and International examination program. His competencies run the gamut, from audit through administrative appeals and post-appeals mediation of contested tax disputes, at trial when tax litigation becomes necessary, obtaining private letter rulings, technical guidance and advice from the IRS National Office, negotiating compromised alternatives to the immediate and enforced collection of unpaid tax assessments under threat of federal tax lien, levy, asset seizure or forfeiture, and the abatement of civil tax penalties and additions to tax. Bob has handled and resolved hundreds of federal income, employment, estate and gift tax cases during the course of his career, by trial or negotiated settlement, involving an array of complex factual and legal issues, and potential tax deficiencies, statutory interest and penalties that have amounted to several billion dollars in the aggregate. Bob, who is a former IRS Senior Trial Attorney with the Office of Chief Counsel and a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Illinois since 1975, is also an adjunct professor of law at Loyola University's School of Law where he has taught coursework in the area of Federal Tax Procedure and Litigation for the past 20 years.
