Responsible for Valmet Automotive's three business lines Roof Systems, Engineering Services and Manufacturing Services as well as global functions Quality and Supply Chain Management with plants in Finland, Germany and Poland. Among main tasks were restructuring initiatives in Valmet Automotive’s German operations and divestment activities related to simplification of corporate structures. Lead negotiator towards major German OEMs as well as employee representatives and German labor union IG-Metall.

Setting up and leading a profit center with task to serve non-traditional automotive OEM's with special series projects. Leading various development projects.

I lead all serial car production at the Uusikaupunki plant. Models manufactured were Porsche Cayman, Think City electrical vehicle, Garia electrical luxury golf car and the Fisker Karma luxury plug-in hybrid.The production operations included the body and paint shop, final assembly, change management, internal and external logistics as well as production control. Overall headcount around 600 people.

The main purpose of this position was to lead efforts to develop and improve Metso Paper and Fiber Technology (Metso PFT) segment’s management systematics, strategy management and business operations in China. I was at the same time also supporting and teaching my local Chinese successor to take over the Project Department responsibilities with as little disturbance to the daily operations as possible until my expatriate contract expired at the end of September 2010.

I lead the Metso Paper and Fiber Technology’s (Metso PFT) capital project execution of paper, tissue and pulp machinery line deliveries in China. The financial results, customer satisfaction and on-time deliveries were key success indicators and the results achieved have been excellent. Being a member of our China management core team in charge of leading and developing all our Metso PFT business operations in China was an important aspect of my work; during my stay in China our headcount has grown from around 600 to 2000. I am also a member of Metso PFT Paper business line Projects and Technology Management Team, which leads our global paper machine capital project execution.Together with my team we have in three years successfully built up functioning project management operations with local personnel in China. The starting point was a small team of local project support engineers helping out travelling foreign project experts; now we have full large capital project execution capabilities: the first fully Chinese led capital project delivery is being executed. The development has been rapid and even faster than expected by management in Finland. At the end of my term the project team consisted of roughly 85 white-collar employees; the project department included project managers, field installation supervisors, start-up experts, a logistics team, customer training engineers, project controllers, a board lab as well as internal project management functions in two manufacturing units.
