About Robert Capella
As a Non-Commissioned Officer and forecaster in the 203rd Weather Flight, my mission was to lead and mentor peers and deliver effective forecasts to National Guard leadership and pilots in high-stakes environments. I have been fortunate to pursue parallel military and student careers in which I enhanced Weather Flight capabilities by sharing and teaching current research, by using software development skills to creaye efficient forecast products to improve day-to-day operations, and by building training programs based on current research to operations trends. As a Staff Weather Officer (SWO), I served as the weather-related subject matter expert to local, regional, and state command staffs for domestic emergencies, exercises, and National Special Security Events. I am most proud of my unit’s successes in supporting NG and state decision makers which showcase our ability to collaborate with a diverse customer base to interpret forecast needs and issue high quality impact-based forecast guidance. In research university settings, I thrived with Air Force-instilled leadership skills and excelled by synthesizing theory with operational forecasting experience. At the University of Wyoming, I tuned research, theoretical meteorology, and Python/large data abilities through work on a winter weather hazard-focused collaborative effort which improved forecasting toolkits employed by NWS personnel. Currently, I build and maintain tools at SciTec, Inc. We leverage data manipulation, large data, and visualization skill sets to serve the war fighter by enabling rapid experimental & operational software analysis.
Listed skills include Leadership, Microsoft Office, Public Speaking, Research, and 6 others.
