I am a 10-year veteran of high school English teacher, currently at Fountain-Fort Carson High School. I enjoy keeping students engaged through developing interesting units around current world events, popular culture, politics, and topics of interest to the students themselves. I, too, am bored by traditional, didactic, lecture-based teaching approaches, so instead I like to integrate a variety of creative methods and technologies into my teaching, including small and large group discussion, Peardeck, Videonotes, special projects, inquiry-based learning, and more. I strive to be an enthusiastic educator and one who motivates students to become thoughtful writers, keen readers, critical thinkers, and engaged citizens. My goal each day is to create an environment for learning in which every student is treated fairly and respectfully, and where they know they can voice their opinions, ideas, and questions openly. Teaching is my passion and my life's work, and it's safe to say that along with my students, I hope to learn something new every day too!I will complete a principal licensure program in the summer of 2020. I wanted to get involved with leadership in a building because I think we lose focus on what is best for kids and instead focus on what is best for test scores. I want to bring a more innovative approach to ed leadership that asks what is best for kids and then does it instead of saying we can't or it won't work.In my free time, you can find me with my wife and son, golfing, or walking my dogs.
