• Educate / inform executive management and create shared interest across global teams on strategies to capitalize on innovations in technology• Emerging technology R&D of cloud-powered infrastructure, mobility, big data, analytics, multi-channel, shopper insights, the Internet of Things, 3D printing, autonomous unmanned vehicles and augmented/virtual reality• Understand business processes and recommend appropriate solutions to business executives• Provide product direction to technology vendors to ensure alignment with Walmart’s 5-year plan • Partner with research labs and startups to understand the impact of emerging technologies on our architecture• Collaborate with suppliers on joint technology initiatives which drive shared value• Work with global Walmart teams on agile development projectsKey Deliverables and Results: • Systems to optimize scheduling, track shopper paths, measure modular integrity and department-level conversion, identify out of stock items and engage customers with personalized messages leveraging video analytics, indoor positioning systems, WiFi, RFID, BLE beacons and other sensors tied to existing transaction and customer data using machine learning algorithms• Prototypes of innovative last mile solutions, including secure, autonomous delivery systems• Created IoT core team, reference architecture and prototypes• Filed 31 patents related to retail operations and technology (10 granted to date)• Immersive analytics environments (Data Cafés) for Sam’s Club and Walmart US• An associate mobility strategy, yielding BYOD programs for store managers• Pilots of in-store 3D scanning and printing• A competitive pricing system that saves Sam’s Club more than $120M annually• Performance Center, a business intelligence system with 40,000 unique users• A Global Compute Fabric architecture used for data center site selection, carrier consolidation and WAN unification, saving millions while substantially increasing bandwidth and services
