IGAPP Team

• Initiates/expedites purchases of parts, services and supplies for all departments of the research vessel (RV Langseth) and shore staff. Follows up on all purchases and open commitments, closes outstanding purchase requisitions on a quarterly basis at a minimum. Implements change orders on an as needed basis. Maintains documentation and inventory control such as requisition records for all Marine Operation departments. Coordinates port requirements with suppliers, ship's agent and all deliveries to and from the ship. Assists other shore-based staff as needed.• Performs all buying functions for OMO. Initiates Requisitions and Change Orders in ARC include supporting documentation which may include but not be limited to: Competitive quotes/bids, Sole Source justification, Exchange rate sheet, Certificates of Insurance, Contract, and Bid Summary.• Monitors progress of each order through completion and codes purchase requisition/invoices for AP processing. Coordinates with vendors for set up of the vendors’ profile in ARC; internal or external accounting staff for receipt/invoice maintenance.• Coordinates port arrangements with Marine Operations/Technical Services managers and ship's agent. Organizes air, truck and sea freight and hazardous freight shipments to the vessel in foreign and domestic ports. Codes each individual piece for various departments. Works with Ship's agent and Lamont Traffic Department to ensure that all shipments reach port, clear customs and are delivered to the vessel during port calls.• Makes small dollar department purchases using the p-card. Reconciles all department p-cards in accordance with ARC monthly closing schedule. Review/process travel reimbursement to ensure compliance with university policy. Maintains p-card and travel reimbursement archive receipts for retrieval, i.e.: audits, etc.

• Serves as Science Officer of Oceanographic Technical Support at sea onboard the academic research vessel R/V Marcus G Langseth. Emphasis was in the IT environments both on the vessel and in the Office of Marine Operations. Participated as a "watch stander" for instrument operations data collection and data management while the Langseth is at sea. • Oversight of operations of shipboard science systems as directed and under supervision. Assists with deployment and recovery of scientific equipment off the vessel. • Data Acquisition Officer managing data collection handling aboard the ship. Overseeing shipboard data mirroring onto hard drives and compilation of data packages on to transportable hard drives for shipment to LDEO's R2R data archival group. • Systems Administration functions for shipboard computer systems and equipment in maintaining shipboard servers. Administrator of shipboard and Cloud-based networks, V-LANs, and VPNs.• Organized shore-based support at LDEO/OMO for vessel-to-office database replications, R2R efforts, IT and other projects.

• Collaborated with scientists and ship's crew to ensure a safe and successful mission.• Instructed and assisted scientific users of the ship facilities in safe operating procedures of shipboard equipment; and proper oceanographic techniques, both on deck and in the labs.• System administrator for the ship's computers, including networked Linux and Windows Server systems, firewalls and Satellite based internet services.• Operated, maintained, troubleshoot, calibrated and repaired various oceanographic systems and sensors suites.• Deployed/operated/maintained specialized systems which will include SeaBird CTD, RDI ADCP, Knudsen echo sounders and R.M. Young meteorological suite.

• Operational / Maintenance training for state vehicles and marine watercraft including the 'Super Sucker' barge in Kaneohe Bay, Coconut Island (Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology) designed for mechanical removal of invasive species of algae.• Coral reef and fish surveying around the Hawaiian Islands monitoring populations and encroachment of alien species of algae. Data entry and analysis conducted on collected datum.• Perform field research on a variety of control and eradication methods; including mechanical and biological controls. Bio-control experiments included sea urchin tracking, culture and recruitment to manage algae populations.
