The Australian Red Cross employs around 2,000 staff with a further 29,000 volunteers across the whole of Australia and has over 100 sites connected to its wide area network and over 100 Windows servers. Working as part of a 2nd & 3rd line team my key responsibilities are for the operation and security of the Australian Red Cross WAN, LANs and internet connectivity. Because of my previous experience I also have a large involvement with all aspects of the Windows server infrastructure.• Planned and implemented an additional Layer 2 MPLS WAN network to 12 key sites using Cisco EIGRP/CEF unequal path load balancing with the existing MPLS network to increase bandwidth and resilience.• Designed an Enterprise firewall solution for the main data centre to provide secure internal network segmentation and external connectivity through multiple ISPs• Re-designed the central switch topology (26 switches) to flatten and simplify the structure and provide increased resilience, performance and high availability• Planned and implemented security updates and centrally authenticated and encrypted access for all Cisco and HP network routers and switches using a Windows 2008 Network Policy Server (NPS)• Created documentation and network schematics for the entire network• Key technical input during a major change program to stabilize the IT infrastructure
