Originally started as a waste recycling business Aran has evolved into a consultancy specialising in improving resource efficiency through the application of Lean Thinking and Life Cycle Process considerations. Our services include resource audits and reviews, education programs, project management and production design, development and implementation. Clients range across sectors and include food processing, plastics, manufacturing and commercial building operations and vary in size from large multinationals to small start-ups.I personally lead all consulting activities including conducting process balancing, value stream mapping, energy audits in accordance with AS3598, and developing and implementing process control and efficiency improvement projects. I also design and deliver customised training programs around Lean Six Sigma principles and support clients in their applications for government grants through the Clean Technology Investment Program. I assist my clients to implement strategic and operational improvements, which will achieve the highest standards of environmental quality and safety, allow them to effectively lead and develop their staff, market and sell better products and ultimately increase their profitability and business success.Recently we have been managing a range of general process efficiency projects in both Australia and China. My work involved carrying out a range of energy audits and developing mass balances for the Mackay and Melbourne refineries using Value Stream Mapping principles. I also managed a Kazan Program across the business. During my time with Sugar Australia I implemented 35 projects with a saving of approximately $300,000, 53TJ of energy, 3600 Tonnes (CO2) and 0.5Ml of water. These projects ranged from installing economisers and O2 controllers on boilers to running continuous improvement teams to reduce steam and water leaks throughout the refinery. I also developed a project ideas pipeline to ensure ideas were integrated into future building and capital expenditure planning and presented three papers on the achievements of Sugar Australia in resource efficiency at the 2010 All Energy Conference, the 2010 Industrial Energy Efficiency Forum and the Environmental Solutions Forum of the AI Group.
