Achievement: Produced a working nuclear battery capable of powering a sensor node system.• Designed, manufactured and tested numerous working nuclear batteries using MATLAB, Simulink, Excel and Solidworks amongst other software.• Project managed the PhD from start to finish including deciding the direction of research and driving forward all aspects of design, development and manufacture. • Organisational abilities were key in order to manage concurrent requirements to; design, test, write papers, attend meetings and write the final thesis.• Developed excellent team working skills by collaborating with other engineers throughout the project and specifically in order to arrange the buried installation of a nuclear battery on a working third party facility.• Wrote regular technical reports and gave presentations at project meetings for the project sponsors.

Researcher tasked with designing, manufacturing and testing a radioisotopic battery to provide power for 10 years to a buried wireless sensor network node. My role involves:• Presenting and discussing my work at meetings with the partners of this Technology Strategy Board sponsored project.• I manage my own time and have successfully completed manufacture of a suitable battery ahead of schedule.• Generating a report on the regulatory, intellectual property, technical and financial background to producing a nuclear battery.

Engineering Summer Placement: Intern on the project management team for the construction of the Isle of Grain gas turbine power plant combined heat and power (CHP) project. • Regular site visits to assess safety documentation and progress of work – developed my communication skills.• I assessed method statements, risk assessments, design maps and project plans.• In order to facilitate monitoring of the project I communicated verbally and by email with a wide variety of personnel, including clients, contractors, site workers and senior management.
