As an Academic Visitor to Imperial College, I am responsible for supervising both MSc and PhD students in the Chemical Engineering Department. In addition, I have been involved with some joint EPSRC programs “High Performance Heat-Power-Cooling Technologies” (iHPC) and Energy-Use Minimisation via High Performance Heat-Power-Cooling Conversion and Integration: A Holistic Molecules to Technologies to Systems Approach.

Working for Government’s Chief Scientific Adviser (CSA), as part of the Science and Innovation Directorate (SID) within the Department of Energy and Climate Change, the role of Principal Engineer (CEng, MIMechE) is to work with industry and academia to evaluate, model, renewable energy technologies. Advising the CSA and Government ministers on technologies and how they fit within the Governments 2050 carbon reduction targets. Since joining DECC:• I have project managed seven projects under the DECC’s Energy Entrepreneurs Fund (£15m+), liaising with industry and academia to deliver new low energy products and services• Become part of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Solar Heating and Cooling Executive Committee (ExCo).• I sit on the Energy Technology Institute (ETI) Marine Renewable Strategic Advisory Group• Become the SID Lead on wave and tidal, solar thermal/PV and energy reduction in the home (including smart heating controls).• I have started supporting the development of Small Modular Reactors (SMR)

In June 2010, I was invited to become a trustee of the new Sustainable Transport Centre, TransEco in Peterborough, with special responsibility for renewable energy at the centre including wind turbines and PV. http://www.transecocentre.com

I brought together a team of engineers and academics to realise the development of solar thermal cooling systems for vaccine and crop storage in the developing world, and the world’s first solar patio heater.

My time here was split between managing Breathing Building's product development department and delivering live projects through my role as a project engineer.

Researched and developed a new type of wave power system in collaboration with Cambridge University.

Under the UK government’s knowledge transfer scheme, I travelled to the United States and learned the “Cradle to Cradle” design philosophy of famed “Green Guru” architect, Bill McDonough. In my role as a design engineer, I integrated renewable energy technologies into McDonough’s building designs, and formulated a C-to-C approach to photovoltaic manufacture.

As project manager, I coordinated designers, consultants, procurement, and fabricators to deliver a $1.5M sculptural steel wall, on time and under budget, for the General Motors' “red-carpet” Detroit Auto Show.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team under the Carbon Trust, I used feasibility research, and consultation with industry experts to design, test, and develop, from prototype to early batch production, the multi-award winning “Complete Solar Roof,” a combined solar PV/thermal roof tile system that helps to blend technology with aesthetic demands for a low visual profile

Junior Project Engineer (university placement). I worked within the R&D department, which included the design of a hydraulic chuck system for a welding robot, and research into the use of composites offshore. My position also included working offshore as a field engineer.
