Robert is an award-winning design engineer with a passion for renewable energy technologies. He has worked with some of the great “Green” visionaries, including Bill McDonough in the US, and David MacKay in the UK. He is a Chartered Engineer (FIMechE) and holds a PhD from Imperial College, researching the optimisation of a wave energy converter, where he continues to be a Visiting Academic. One of Robert’s greatest talents is the ability to act as a catalyst, bringing together scientists, academics, engineers, business experts, and others to develop ideas from concept to market and to facilitate innovation across multiple platforms. With more than ten years’ experience as a design engineer, product designer, and project manager, Robert has developed several unique patentable products and managed a number of key projects under the Energy Entrepreneur's Fund (EEF) for the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) in the UK.

Assistant Director – Principal Engineer
Working for Government’s Chief Scientific Adviser (CSA), as part of the Science and Innovation Directorate (SID) within the Department of Energy and Climate Change, the role of Principal Engineer (CEng, MIMechE) is to work with industry and academia to evaluate, model, renewable energy technologies. Advising the CSA and Government ministers on technologies and how they fit within the Governments 2050 carbon reduction targets. Since joining DECC:• I have project managed seven projects under the DECC’s Energy Entrepreneurs Fund (£15m+), liaising with industry and academia to deliver new low energy products and services• Become part of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Solar Heating and Cooling Executive Committee (ExCo).• I sit on the Energy Technology Institute (ETI) Marine Renewable Strategic Advisory Group• Become the SID Lead on wave and tidal, solar thermal/PV and energy reduction in the home (including smart heating controls).• I have started supporting the development of Small Modular Reactors (SMR)
