Elo designed the original touch screen and now builds touch monitors and controllers.• Architected and wrote the analog front end control firmware for Elo’s new PCAP controller ASIC. The firmware is written in a compiled Forth like macro assembly language. The design is parameterized to allow modification of drive sequence and timing without modifying the underling firmware.• Created firmware for design verification and ASIC validation of Elo’s custom PCAP ASIC. (capacitive sense)• Modified the firmware’s tracker code to improve tracking of fast moving touches and association of self cap row and column signals into touches.• Identified ESD latch-up problem and resolved it with analog designer.• Implemented a low power mode for the PCAP controller.• Solved firmware field issues for existing Elo SAW and resistive controllers. • Added controlled access to a SAW controller for a customer request. • Added 4-wire resistive screen support to a 5-wire controller for a tier 1 customer.

Embedded Embedded Image Processing firmware for CMOS image sensors. Did firmware design, test, and integration of sensor control algorithms and hardware drivers for three of Aptina’s SOC image sensors and a companion chip. Wrote RAM redundancy test and control firmware in C that runs during boot without using any RAM. Wrote firmware for flash, auto focus, OTPM programming, pipeline controls, and patches for two of Aptina’s 5MP mobile parts. Supported FAEs and product engineers as needed. Supervised firmware enhancements and wrote the face tracking firmware for a new 1080P PC web cam part. Ported GPIO firmware, and wrote test scripts for a 720P automotive companion part.

ViVOtech was an early pioneer using NFC for payments, supplying readers, loyalty cards, and phone software.• Added a USB HID interface and a firmware downloader to the existing ARM 7 firmware code base. Integrated the hardware and firmware and took the reader through USB-IF certification testing.• Architected and co-wrote the firmware, user interface, and communication protocol for a configurable mobile payment terminal. ARM 7 based terminal is connected by a triple DES encrypted Bluetooth link. The user interface consists of a graphics LCD, a touch screen, and keypad. Wrote a program to simulate the LCD display so I could prototype the display with faster turn-around and document the result for the product manager.• Supported technical support and sales engineer answering issues escalated to firmware engineering.• Designed training material and taught a customer class on our firmware.

Developed and supported Flash and Anti-fuse FPGA programmers. Enhanced software for Actel's Logic Analyzer diagnostic tool. Improved in-house Flash programming yield based on failure analysis results. Resolved customer problems with Flash FPGA programming. Designed flexible JTAG test board to duplicate customer programming environment and test programming software.

Wrote diagnostic software in C, C++, and Excel VBA under Windows NT, and UNIX for Teradyne's memory and ASIC testers. Diagnostics were for the tester mainframe hardware and embedded processors. The code used hardware register accesses, as well as calls to the runtime library. Wrote HAL for the hardware interface. Was a technical lead for the diagnostic software group. Helped other software engineers understand how to control the hardware. Did initial hardware bringup with the diagnostics. Wrote debug display for customer use. Took on software release responsibility for one of the testers running the build and created the CD artwork.

Amdahl was a mainframe computer manifacturer who was later acquired by Fujitsu corp.Started as a hardware designer for their ECL high-speed in-house test equipment. Later switched over into software for their power and cooling control system. Software ran under UNIX on custom console hardware.
