My role on FOI did not exactly change when I became a Senior, but as the title suggest, with many years of experience on FOI, my knowledge of our organisation is an asset when preparing projects and writing research proposals.The main part of my projects are so called EU projects under the FP7/H2020 programs.My main responsibility (but only get to work with it sporadically, go figure) is our distributed simulation environment, MOSART, that supply Java/C++/MATLAB/C# APIs for HLA Evolved and a variety of tools to go with it.That said, most of my days are filled with software development in all kinds of varieties, though mostly centered around Java. I dabble in Scala, Android apps and advanced XSLT-scripts. Working with back-ends (REST, Spring, GWT (well per definition both back- and front-end!)), middle-ware(HLA, ZeroMQ, sockets, COM), frontends(NetBeans platform, Eclipse RCP, QT, Android), you name it. Good times!

Started working with distributed simulation as soon as I started working on FOI. Back then we used CORBA (ACE/TAO) as middleware. I came from the States, where I had been working with the latest in software development, namely Visual Studio 6.0 and Delphi. Returning to UNIX, ad-hoc build systems and nothing close to the debug and programming support of Visual Studio was an interesting challenge. I also implemented some of our prototypes in IRIX for use in flight simulators.After a few years we started using HLA for distributed simulation, moving to Windows as main development operating system, even though we had prototypes in Linux.I also started to use Java more frequently within intelligence systems, getting familiar with web services using SOAP. During this time I worked a few weeks in interesting places like Singapore, Florida and California.

Designed and implemented a C++ interpreter used in Seehau, a debug and profiler tool for 16-bits processors.After my thesis I was headhunted by Nohau Corporation, who offered me a position in Malmö, Sweden, but I was a bit reluctant, so they said they also had an office in San José and I could go there if I wanted to and passed the 4 hour job interview in Malmö, which I did.When I finished my M.Sc I had only been using developing software using rudementary tools like Emacs, DDD, GDB on UNIX/Linux. Learning to use Windows NT and Visual Studio 6.0 was a pleasant experience.When I signed up for the position I said I only wanted to stay in the States one year, which was really lucky, since 2001 the IT crash hit even Nohau Corporation, which was not on the stock market, but their biggest customers like Crystler and Western Digital was.
