Soon after Saatchi & Saatchi bought our independent marketing and communications consultancy in 1989, I ran off to do my own thing. Alongside designing a new approach to my work, I supported a handful of well known youth brands and flirted briefly with the world of art and music. In the mid 90s, my pursuit of a better workstyle led to a period of travel and ultimately, a new home in Sydney. After a short stint as GM of a design agency, now Landor Australia, I quickly returned to the solo life and set about creating a community for others wishing to take control of their work-life. In late 2017, having grown Flying Solo steadily and with a membership base of over 120,000 independent businesses, I sold the company to David Koch's Pinstripe Media Group. Today my focus is on supporting solo and small businesses, in particular those seeking to improve energy and optimism; attract more customers, and work more productively.
