Profile bio

About Robert Hennessy

As a technical leader with over nine years of experience in MEMS motion sensors including over five years of managerial experience, I turn ideas into state of the art motion sensors. These MEMS motion sensors (gyroscopes and accelerometers) are used in many high volume applications including cell phones, robotic vacuums and AR/VR. I play a key part in defining and executing the motion product and technology development roadmap. I manage a team of talented engineers who ensure that the new products are state of the art, work as liaisons between cross-functional teams, and ensure tight inter-team coordination. Additionally, we drive technical decision making and ensure effective reactions to unexpected problems. We interface between high profile customers and internal technical teams.Previously, as Manager for MEMS Gyroscope Design, I led a group of five engineers in improving existing designs and creating next generation architectures. Using my deep technical knowledge and managerial experience, I provided guidance and direction to the team to create a new product family. I also led recruitment, hiring, and training of new engineers. These trainings included FEA modeling using ANSYS, hands-on characterization with bench tools, debug methodology, and interpersonal skills.I pursue continuous eduction by taking managerial and technical courses. To lead teams more effectively, I took The Leading People and Teams Specialization course from the University of Michigan. This specialization taught me leadership skills, including how to inspire and motivate individuals, manage talent, and influence without authority. To run projects more efficiently, I took the Engineering Project Management Specialization course from Rice University where I learned project management skills, including how to initiate a project, manage risks, and interact with stakeholders. To learn about statistics and machine learning, I finished MITx MicroMasters Program in Statistics and Data Science. I learned statistics, probability and machine learning algorithms. During my Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, I designed a novel MEMS structure to measure relative humidity which combined a resonator and surface resistance. I wrote data acquisition programs in MATLAB, built an environmental chamber from scratch, and designed an oscillator circuit in Cadence. During my B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the UC Berkeley, I focused on analog circuit design. Additionally, I wrote code for Jester, a program that uses machine learning to recommend jokes.

Listed skills include Mems, Matlab, Sensors, Characterization, and 19 others.
