I am a researcher, teacher, and activist in the urban planning field. My research investigates the nexus between digital technologies and collaborative planning, to explore how technology can be effectively used within a humanistic and emancipatory planning practice. My book, Scenario Planning for Cities and Regions, contains an accessible description of the key ideas and theories of scenarios, collaboration, and complexity that underlie my work.I am currently involved in several research projects:Justice InDeed (justiceindeedmi.org) - A community collaborative project that seeks to better understand and repair the harms done by racially restrictive covenants in Washtenaw County.Scenario Planning for Cities and Regions - Through research and teaching, I seek to advance planning practices which fosters resilience and urban transformation through the collaborative creation of future scenarios.Michigan Zoning Atlas (mizoningatlas.org) - A project to spur housing reforms and innovation through the mapping and analysis of zoning codes, an affiliate of the National Zoning Atlas.Trains Not Lanes (trainsnotlanes.org) - As a citizen, I lead a community coalition which successfully stopped a freeway widening proposal in Ann Arbor, and continues to promote the expansion of regional transit.Previous research projects have investigated spatial and methodological issues in the context of topics including water quality, public transit, evictions, and ridesharing.
