I am currently working as an experienced Peer Educator at the a[TEST] HIV & STI testing clinics on Oxford Street and in Surry Hills, a joint operation run by ACON and Sydney Sexual Health Centre that provides sexual health screening and education for men who have sex with men. This client-facing role has made me privy to a range of perspectives and attitudes within the LGBTQIA+ community that inspired me to return to studying psychology so that I might be able to apply my knowledge of sexuality to the field fo mental health. I have recently completed my Graduate Diploma of Psychology (Adv) and submitted my original thesis. My research outlined explorative qualitative research into the ways that people within the LGBTQIA+ community provide each other informal mental health support in times of need, often when culturally safe mental health care for queer people is either insufficient or inaccessible. I am currently applying for Masters positions with the intention of becoming a Clinical Psychologist so that I can continue contributing to the area of LGBTQIA+ mental health in both research and clinical practice. But I am still passionate about all things relating to sexuality and sexual health, particularly pertaining to the LGBTQIA+ community. My goal is to combine my sociological perspectives and practical experience in public health settings with my ongoing psychological training to foster healthier and safer attitudes regarding sexuality, health, pleasure, intimacy and relationships.
