Graduating in Communications Engineering at RMIT University in 1969, I subsequently took on engineering, engineering management and project management roles in the intelligence community, with Rockwell, and with Andrew Corporation. Since 1992, I have consulted or trained in systems engineering in 41 countries and with some of the world’s best-known companies. I am a former member of the INCOSE Board of Directors, based in Seattle, a former President of the Systems Engineering Society of Australia, and hold honorary membership of the Korean Council on Systems Engineering and of INCOSE Brasil. I served as an INCOSE Ambassador for a number of years The improvement of companies and the lives of their people through systems engineering has been my professional raison d'être for decades, consulting and delivering my training program to over 14,700 delegates on six continents. The other side of my life is musical theatre. Stephen Sondheim, Claude-Michel Schönberg, Alain Boublil, Andrew Lloyd Webber, watch out (only kidding!).I led the delegation of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) to ISO/IEC JTC1 SC7 on software and systems engineering. I was a key reviewer of EIA 632 (Engineering of Systems) and EIA 731 (Systems Engineering Capability Model). I co-chaired the launch of EIA 731 in Nashville. I have content in the systems engineering standards EIA/IS 632 and its successor in the area of requirements quality, and in IEEE 1220 in the area of functional analysis. I have continued to contribute to ISO standards development, including the current ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 and its derivatives.I have led or played a major role in the engineering of large, complex systems in the fields of satellite communications, computing, terrestrial communications, civil aviation and military aviation. I've consulted extensively in the areas of high frequency radio communications, satellite communications systems, verification and validation, systems engineering processes, project risk analysis, risk management, requirements quality and its relationship to project risk, and specification writing.
