From 1997 to 2001, Mr. Byrne was one of the 2 executive founders/owners of the nationwide bus company, Global Passenger Services. As senior VP and sole lawyer for GPS, he completed 30 key acquisition transactions. Bob and his company were based in the area around Spring Lake, New Jersey. Thereafter, Mr. Byrne continued to the serve as chief legal counsel and Board secretary to the successor company to GPS, named “Student Transportation of America, Inc.”. For the 14 years STA was publicly traded, he organized and handled all Board affairs for the 7-person public board. In 2018, Mr. Byrne assisted when the public company was bought out in a $1 billion takeover by CDPQ, the largest Quebec-based pension fund. STA was then and still is the 3rd largest student transportation company in North America. STA operates more than 16,000 vehicles across the U.S. and Canada. Mr. Byrne completed 62 bus company acquisitions for STA over his 23 years, as well as handling all general corporate law requirements such as leasing, construction and employment law issues, as well as bidding/procurement and IT issues, including work related to the company's proprietary apps.
