Byte Night is the IT/TMT community's annual fundraising sleep out to raise funds for Action for Children. In 2013, the event raised over £1m nationally. In 2014, this will be its 17th year in London and its 7th year in Scotland (and I will have been at every one of those in Scotland !!). This is my 6th year on the Board of Byte Night Scotland, having completed three Byte Night's as Chair.

I have been with BDO LLP for 25 years providing Technology Advisory Services, having previously worked for a time in industry with an IT company and a management consultancy and also within the profession in similar consultancy and management roles.During my career, I have worked on a wide variety of IT and information systems assignments for organisations in both the public and private sectors, predominantly with SME’s, providing business systems advice including systems selection, IT/IS review services (including from an audit perspective) and business system implementation, reimplementation, integration, training and bespoke management reporting services. I am very knowledgeable with regard to a number of business software systems from small to mid-range systems and specific vertical market products. I have been involved in business system implementations/re-implementations, both as project manager and in a more hands-on role. Utilising my accounting expertise, I am also involved in the delivery of our business outsourcing and advisory services, primarily from the business systems perspective.I am also involved in International Outsourcing Advisory - delivering local compliance services via our BDO International member firms to global businesses.I am a member of our TMT team in Scotland.

In addition to the FD role, I worked primarily with PE's business customers providing them with system review, implementation and selection services.

I worked in the Business Services Department of DH&S, providing outsourced IT system and accounting services, including system implementation and selection services.I had previously worked for a management consultancy company and one of their clients, Pictaural Electronics, asked me to come and work for them to provide similar services to their business clients and take up the post of Finance Director designate for the company. I was employed by PE from 1985 to 1987. Prior to DH&S, I worked with:A management consultancy company;A Scottish health board;A mid-sized Scottish accountancy firm.
