Provide legal counsel to company and its North American and international subsidiaries on commercial and litigation matters, including:• Products liability, negligence, strict liability, wrongful death, premises liability, mass torts, dealer termination, contract issues and negotiations.• Advise multiple SBUs and manage issues related to associated product lines and commercial relationships. • Retain, manage and direct outside counsel, develop strategic defenses, negotiate successful resolutions by active participation in settlement conferences, mediations, and domestic and international arbitrations. • Manage $100M plus in annual litigation spend.• Provide critical reporting and guidance to senior business leaders regarding risks, benefits and strategic opportunities in litigation, pre-litigation and commercial matters. • Forecast trends in defense spending and indemnity and develop, implement, direct and manage strategies for cost control, streamlining of processes and efficient use of limited resources. • Provide guidance to internal and external auditors regarding reserves for legal contingencies and litigation matters.• Work closely with risk management and insurers throughout the litigation process. • Direct and manage third-party administrators in management of insured claims against the company.• Interact closely with business, legal and engineering colleagues to investigate and respond to pre-litigation claims. • Respond to subpoenas and initiate investigations and legal holds.• Manage discovery, corporate witness development and document reviews, including e-discovery. • Work as lead litigation team member in coordination with finance and internal audit teams.
