At The Nicholson Center, we have always worked hard to provide services to the clients who are challenging and often unwanted because of their behavioral needs.After Governor Kasich created the Employment First initiative, I started working to create employment opportunities in the community. Working with the Beaver Creek Candle company and Tommy's Jerky Outlet, we launched seven retail stores in Warren, Howland, Salem, Boardman, Calcutta, Columbus and Lancaster, Ohio. The clients who work in these stores earn paychecks that change their lives.

This initiative has lost focus at the Chamber which I think is sad. The conversations that we had were influential on the lives of those who attended. I really felt that we had an opportunity to help influence entrepreneurs across the country to get involved.

I founded this company with my mother in 1999 and we began providing residential support services to individuals with mental retardation and developmental disabilities in February of 2000. My mother and I worked together from Feb 2000 until March 2002. I ran the company independently from March 2002 to May of 2005 until such time that I started college at Ohio State.

The 2009 event is titled "Initiate. Innovate. Inspire: Leadership through Entrepreneurship.” Students will be placed in groups and will work together to develop their ideas. An effective group will utilize patient thought and innovative insight to create a sound plan for their assignment.
