World Outside My Shoes is a non-profit educational and professional development organization committed to inspiring and equipping people to enter the world of “the other" using the principles of respect, empathy, and inclusion. It was founded and is run by Carl Wilkens, the only American to remain in Rwanda during the 1994 genocide – and whose subsequent choices saved countless lives over those following three months. Carl now travels the world speaking with schools, educators, companies, organizations, and faith-based groups to share stories of resilience, reconciliation, and rebuilding, applying the lessons of Rwanda to help us reconsider how to tackle today's challenges. The Child Is Innocent (Latin Balle Pee, www.thechildisinnocent.org) seeks to identify the most needy children of Northern Uganda with the greatest potential for academic achievement, pursuing a rigorous interview process within some of the most vulnerable areas of Gulu, Uganda. Through partnerships with a U.S. and Canadian branch of the organization, we are able to solicit individual international sponsors for these children’s educational pursuits in a one-on-one or two-on-one model. We then use this funding to enter our students into some of the most well respected boarding schools in Gulu and Kampala in order to ensure their ability to succeed and fully develop their phenomenal talents and potential.

EPIC, El Paso Immigration Collaborative (https://elpasojuntos.org/), is an organization of immigration rights advocates from El Paso, New Mexico, and around the US dedicated to implementing a massive collaborative representation strategy in five detention centers in New Mexico and West Texas that house over 3,500 ICE detainees. Using innovative technology, EPIC connects on the ground legal services organizations with remote teams of attorneys to bring high quality representation to asylum seekers for bond and parole cases to secure their release from ICE detention. EPIC will also collect data to create space for advocacy, public policy, and litigation that will challenge the devastating norms of immigration detention and court in the El Paso region. This is a volunteer position overseeing the remote contributions of other volunteers around the country.

Purpose builds and supports movements to advance the fight for an open, just, and habitable world.We use public mobilization and storytelling to help the leading organizations, activists, businesses, and philanthropies engaged in this fight, and we create campaigning labs and new initiatives that can shift policies and change public narratives when it matters most.

SEGL is a semester program for a small number of intellectually motivated high school juniors located in Washington, D.C. The curriculum aims to foster a greater sense of global awareness within motivated high school students and encourages them to explore different vehicles through which practical action for international crises may be taken. "America needs a new kind of leader. It needs leaders who are literate in the critical challenges facing our world. It needs thoughtful activists, passionate social entrepreneurs, and relentless humanitarians. If we show a talented, motivated cohort of young Americans how to be this kind of leader, that group will create currents of hopeful, infectious, and powerful change throughout the world."

According to the former United Nations Under-Secretary General for Children in Armed Conflicts, Northern Uganda is the worst place on earth to be a child today. HCCUP, the Harvard College Coalition for Ugandan Peace, is concerned with the political, social, and cultural issues regarding the ongoing two-decade-plus conflict in Uganda, which is debilitating a nation and its children through the horrifying conditions of war. HCCUP seeks to promote greater awareness and understanding of these issues through film screenings, political letter writing campaigns, speaker panels to raise awareness, and fundraisers to generate money for humanitarian initiatives.

uNight: for the children of Uganda is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to building an effective grassroots constituency in the United States and United Kingdom to help end the 20-year long war in northern Uganda and to provide long-term humanitarian assistance to the child victims. uNight works closely with grassroots and faith-based organizations, student groups, and the private sector to raise public awareness and find innovative ways to address this neglected humanitarian catastrophe through microfinance, entrepreneurial, and tutoring programs on the ground in Uganda.

A campaign conducted on Harvard campus to generate empathy and raise money for a Rwandan genocide orphan to attend university for clinical psychology in eastern Rwanda. Responsible for mobilizing Harvard student volunteers for an on-campus door-to-door fundraising effort. Surpassed initial $2000 goal and fundraised over $4000 in two weeks, funding two years of college education for the orphan. Run under the auspices of All Nations Education, a nonprofit organization devoted to providing young adults in developing countries with the resources to pursue college education and the mentorship to become moral leaders.

An undergraduate student organization that seeks to promote international human rights advocacy at Harvard College through education, local advocacy initiatives, and high quality research. Taking advantage of the impressive intellectual and financial resources of Harvard University, the Human Rights Advocates works to bring awareness to international human rights issues and to effect positive change on the local and global levels.Oversaw activities of the six Regional Directors of Advocacy, responsible for spreading awareness on campus and in the local community about advocacy movements in six major regions of the world. Helped organized film screenings, speaker panels, and fundraising efforts for movements.

Worked with clients from Boston Medical Center from lower socio-economic backgrounds to help secure food stability and reliable utilities access over the course of the year. Responsible for contacting local Departments of Transitional Aid and national utilities services to accomplish this. Affiliated with Project H.E.A.L.T.H., a national non-profit dedicated to breaking the link between poverty and poor health.
