This position focused on the biochemistry/biophysics side of a drug discovery project pertaining to a rare genetic disease. My research pertained to the enzymatic and biophysical characterization of a variety of drug candidates being developed as potential therapeutic agents.

My postdoctoral studies explored the kinetics of various DNA ligases, but heavily focused on T4 DNA ligase. This work involved detailed steady-state, pre-steady state and single turnover experimental analysis of various steps in the ligation pathway. The goal of the research was to accurately quantitate the microscopic rates of the mechanistic steps using fitting by simulation, and expand the kinetic model of ligation present throughout the literature to more effectively represent the true functionality of this essential class of enzymes.

My graduate work pertained to proteins involved in the DNA replication process from the archaeal organism Sulfolobus solfataricus. At the University of Pittsburgh I examined the enzymatic functions of DNA polymerase, primase and helicase enzymes, as well as characterized protein-protein interactions resultant from the formation of higher order complexes of these enzymes with their respective accessory factors.
