Successes included creation of a retired dentist volunteer program, mobilization of a National Guard dental unit, and passage of a new CHIP dental benefit. Developed and chaired a series of policy roundtables to help gubernatorial staff implement HIPAA. Enabled 15 states to save an estimated $50 million through implementation efficiencies. Brokered a new funding relationship with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Enabled the association to retain two staff and fund new activities to address the burden of addiction on state budgets, economic productivity and the well-being of individuals and families. Show less
