Position and duties included one year in the Appeals and Review Division which required briefing and orally arguing appeals before the Illinois Appellate Court, Illinois Supreme Court and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Three years as an attorney in the General Litigation Division. Primary work was Federal Civil Rights litigation with emphasis on police misconduct and cases involving the First Amendment, such as the Chicago Police "Red Squad" litigation and newsstands. Full range of litigation experience involving bench trials for Injunctive and Declaratory Relief in both Federal and State Courts, as well as jury trials. Also prosecuted hundreds of municipal ordinance violations in various branch courts throughout the City and represented the City in contract cases, municipal tax cases and cases challenging City ordinances, such as the Landlord/Tenant ordinance. Also advised the Chicago Board of Health on various legal issues while serving on the Board of Health Child Abuse and Neglect Committee.
