CinePunked is a fusion of scholarly and popular approaches to film. Bringing interactive conversation about film to live audiences, opening difficult films and subjects to wider audiences and sharing our love of the medium.CinePunked focuses on live debate, podcasts and publications, with a slate of projects in development.CinePunked's core members and founders are film historians Robert JE Simpson and Dr Rachael Kelly. They are supported by Ben Simpson who serves as technician, and producer of the podcasts. Robert set up and developed the collective in 2015 with a series of live panel discussions in Belfast, and continues to serve as host and MC for live events and the podcast. The first person he approached was regular collaborator Rachael Kelly and they quickly cemented this as a joint project. Drawing on lengthy experiences with outreach programmes, publications and the film industry, each event and publication is carefully researched and delivered. Working in tandem with Rachael Kelly, Robert curates the CinePunked strand and works with various partner venues and institutions to bring their work to the general public.Every live event is recorded for future release and in late 2017 a regular podcast made its debut. Robert hosts each edition and also conducts special interview episodes with industry professionals. Robert is currently exploring further outlets for the programme and is keen to take the show on tour.

Owner/director of Avalard Publishing - an independent press with special interest in film, television, theatre, Irish interest, fiction and reprint/facsimile works.Pre-orders commenced winter 2011, with the debut print book published in March 2012 - a special reprint of the forgotten 1898 novel by Irish author Robert Cromie, "The Lost Liner".In 2012 edited and published two books by late horror actress and author Ingrid Pitt - Annul Domini (a time travelling tale in which an assassin sets out to kill Jesus Christ), and Dracula Who? (including the novel and script versions of a story once optioned by Hammer Films).Several other contracts were negotiated, and books developed before the press was reactivated at the end of 2018.In the first half of 2019 Avalard published ebook versions of Hellraisers - Paul Kane's non-fiction study of the Hellraiser films - and Veritas - a semi-autobiographical novel by the late Pete Quaife, founding member of The Kinks. Hard copy editions of both are due later in 2019.Robert has worked closely with literary estates and the complexities of licensing and intellectual property concerns. He variously works as commissioner, editor, copy-editor, designer, and writer along with a small team of trusted collaborators.

Have been operating as a freelance writer and editor for 15 years, contributing to a range of magazines, books and websites, as well as broadcast interviews for dvds, television and radio.Some fiction work, but predominantly concerning film history, and horror cinema in particular. Magazines written for include The Vacuum, The Cushing Courier, Little Shoppe of Horrors, Film Ireland, and Diabolique (which I was founding editor of).Currently working on several non-fiction book projects relating to Hammer films.Open to other offers / commissions.
