● Implemented a structured and focused management framework for supply chain which had Vision, Mission, Values and Strategic Objectives as a foundation and Key Plans, Activities and Measures that were used to give direction to and measure results from the daily activities of the supply chain team.● Participated in the implementation of a “Safety” process that led to a “World Class” safety culture evolving in the company.

● Negotiated numerous purchase, supply, distribution, shareholder, and other agreements for business units in Canada & the USA, that resulted in increased security of supply and lower costs. ● Supply agreement counterparties include OPG, American Electric Power, Progress Energy, Kentucky Utilities, Caraustar Industries, Republic Paperboard Company, Norampac, National Gypsum Company, CN, CPR, CSL, TCPL, Enbridge, etc.● Developed the “supply chain” concept within the organization.● Built the supply chain department from 3 people covering Canada into a 25 person team with North American responsibility. At its peak the team was responsible for the equivalent of 1000 trucks per business day.● Developed and implemented the strategy to outsource paper supply based on long term agreements generating annual savings of $12 million, significant improvements in quality and reduced working capital. ● Developed and implemented an energy purchasing strategy for the North American business that had an annual spend of $100 million.

● Participated as a key member of the leadership team that delivered $60 million in savings. ● Led or participated in the negotiations for the acquisition of 8 businesses. The company grew from $200 million to $1,300 million in top line revenue principally through acquisition.● Developed and implemented of the gypsum board growth Strategy following the above acquisitions which led to supply contracts and the construction of a $200 million factory.● Co-authored a research report on the future of synthetic gypsum as background to the above growth strategy.● Prepared annual and long range plans.● Leading teams charged with reviewing the strategic issues and identifying solutions.● Introduced and sold executives on a gypsum board recycling initiative that lead to becoming the world leader in gypsum recycling with annual recycling exceeding 100,000 tons for two decades, and lead to the Ontario Recycling Counsel award for 1991 and $2 million in annual savings.● Carried out treasury functions including monitoring the performance of a $100 million pension fund.

As an auditor with E&Y in Winnipeg and Melbourne Australia and also with Genstar the roles involved increasing levels of responsibility for planning, organizing, supervising and carrying out audits with exposure to a wide variety of industries that included:Mortgage Banking, Canadian Trust Co., Solid Waste Management, Heavy Construction & Aggregates, Land Development, Commodity Trading, Offshore Oil Drilling, Department Store Retailing, Professional Partnerships, Wholesaling and Distribution, Not for Profit Enterprises.
