Direct Debit processing: Indexation & Commission Unbundling. Increased Robustness of the Overnight Batch Schedule: - Restart Functionality, Transaction Loop Control. Various other efforts that included: - reduced transactions by 40%, 1 hour reductions in batch processing (removal of redundant processing), automating Record pruning efforts, database reviews.

Performance, designed & implemented the following reductions: a monthly cycle by 90 min (80%) transaction reduction); a monthly cycle by 1 hour (99% function reduction); a nightly transaction from 20 minutes down to 3 seconds reduced the valuations cycle by 25%.

Duties were split 75% design (analysis, functional and technical specifications) and 25% development and Model Office support. He provided Model Office support for the implementation of a Client database conversion (extraction from LIFE/400), and specifications (and development/Model Office support) for incremental updates of the Client database via an implementation of database triggers. He also provided specifications (and prototyping) for extraction of contract related information from LIFE/400 into appropriate information to be utilised by Lifewise. Considerable effort was involved with data manipulation for presentation in an entirely new data model courtesy of Dutch tax legislation.

Application Package: CLOASAs a member of the Quickwins (Production Support) team, I provided solutions to production errors. He participated on the Platform Rationalisation project, which involved the rationalisation of Life Assurance Office Administration systems, and hence converted a product portfolio (60,000 Unit Linked policies) into CLOAS, and enhanced CLOAS to cater for the functionality required by Pearl Assurance. Phase 1 of the project went live on 31st December 2000.Duties included application design (50% analysis and functional specification); development and production support (50%). During the system testing and UAT phases of the project (October – December) he provided test support. Specifications written included enhancements to the following areas: Gross Price Funds, Claims Servicing, and Projection. Areas developed included Gross Price Funds.

Application Package: Life/400This project involved converting the existing product portfolio into the ‘Lifetime’ version of LIFE/400, and enhancing LIFE/400 to cater for the functionality required by Eagle Star. This version of LIFE/400 was chosen as it had been customised for the Irish marketplace. Rob was a member of the design team (functional/technical specifications), and then with a tight project timeframe, assisted with the development (coding, unit testing and QA) of the functionality for this release. Specifications written included enhancements to the following areas: Pending Indexation and Review Processing. Areas developed included Indexation and Review Processing. He also provided test user support for the above areas and functionality previously live.

Application Package: Life/400This project involved converting the existing product portfolio into the current International Base version of LIFE/400, and enhancing LIFE/400 to cater for a new product to be launched. The current LIFE/400 version was chosen to provide additional functionality combined with Year 2000 compliance.This project team consisted of a Project Leader, six Senior Analyst/Programmers, three Analyst/Programmers, 2 Junior Application Programmers, three Business Analysts and a Model Office team of five.Rob’s duties included Application Design (75% Functional and Technical Specifications), Development (15%), and User Acceptance Testing (10%). Rob was responsible for Environmental Maintenance (Software promotion, creation of projects, Work Implementation etc.) for the first six months of the project.Specifications written included enhancements to the following areas: Single Premium Top-Up, Agency Maintenance, Agent Payments, Surrender Processing, Maturity Processing (complete review), Chargeable Event Claim Processing (UK Legislative Requirements), Cancel from Inception (including Market Loss Processing), Alter from Inception, Payment (Direct Credit) Letters, Conversion of Clients, Bank Accounts and Agents.Areas developed included: New Business Enhancements, US GAAP Accounting and Letter Maintenance.

Application Package: Life/400Assignments:Legal & General: Sydney.RSA, Wellington, NZJune 1997 – March 1998: Royal & Sun Alliance, New ZealandRob was a member of the IA (Initial Analysis) team that also contained a Business Consultant and a Senior Applications Consultant (UK based). This phase lasted 2 months. He was responsible for providing assistance to the senior team members, as well as the application knowledge specific to the Australian Base version of LIFE/400, in the production of proposed solutions to business requirements. This was an intensive period, where between the hours of 9-2, 4-6 was spent with members of the Senior User Group, and the proposed solutions were developed outside of these hours. During this period all business aspects of LIFE/400 were covered.This project involved taking the Australian Regional Base Version of LIFE/400 and customising it for Royal and Sun Alliance New Zealand. Rob was responsible for technical specifications, supervision of developers, reviewing work (technical specifications/coding/testing), and providing business/application technical assistance as and when required. He was also responsible for the implementation of Work Units (a feature introduced in SMART v9503) and the introduction of coding standards and walkthrough procedures.As the programmers had no prior SMART exposure (2 came from an RPG background, others came from a mainframe background), technical specifications were commonly done to the pseudo code, or actual code level. Specifications written covered areas of New Business (First Billing Date, Transfer on), Billing (Overdue processing, Direct Debit Adjustments, Direct Debit Tapes, Bank Account Validation, Premium Increase Rules), Premium Calculations (Premium Discounting, Interpolation of waiting period ranges), Underwriting (Special Terms Exclusion Code), and Client Processing (Corporate Client Lending Institution, Client Input Data, Client Source Information).
