Robert is currently the Chief Investment Officer and a Board Director of Rowan Dartington, the discretionary arm of St. James's Place. He heads a collaborative team of 30+, working on all areas of Investment Process/Governance, Investment Strategy, Portfolio Management, Responsible Investing, Stock and Fund Research, and the Dealing Desk. In this role, Robert regularly draws on his management and coaching skills alongside his extensive experience as Global Strategist and Fund Manager. His investment style is top down macroeconomic and thematic, whilst also using multi-asset risk based quantitative strategies. Robert strives to convey complex ideas in an accessible and non-technical manner, presents to both clients and the media, and is regularly quoted in the press. Prior to joining Rowan Dartington, Robert was head of Asset Management in Canada for Canaccord Genuity, and the lead fund manager for Global Portfolio Solutions (GPS) Optimized Portfolios. Robert also engaged within the wider business as a member of the Canaccord Asset Allocation committee with a particular interest in multi-asset portfolio construction and risk. Robert also spent 10 years at Credit Suisse, latterly as Global Equity Strategist, but also worked in European equity strategy, quantitative equity strategy and European economics. He began his career in finance as a bond analyst for Paine Webber.Before finance, Robert started his professional life in academia, followed by a several terms as a civil servant at a number of government departments as a statistician and an economist then returning to academia before embarking on his current career. He has had a number of papers published in various economics journals.
