As a Senior Scrum Master at DFS, I do more than simply lead my teams through scrum ceremonies. I have gladly accepted the responsibility of taking the Product Owners' vision, roadmap, and backlog and turning it into a high quality, iteratively deliverable (I love that phrase) product that customers love. I drive the team to success and am always looking for ways to make my teams higher performing and more productive.I also take an active role in improving the adoption of Agile development throughout the company. I work with the other scrum masters to improve reporting, slim down processes, and in general move the needle forward. I evangelize Agile and Scrum (and Kanban where appropriate) to the rest of the business at every opportunity. Most importantly, I take the time to mentor the Product Management Org on Agile and Scrum, because I truly believe that a smartly implemented Scrum framework in any development shop can help deliver higher quality code more frequently which is the best way to continuously fight for marketshare and mindshare.

As a TPM at McGraw Hill Education I was responsible for guiding the product teams through the technical aspects of product creation. I provide vision, industry expertise and strategic guidance to bring superb educational products to market. Additionally, I provided project management for the teams that worked on my products, Scrum Mastering for some teams and utilizing Kanban for others.

• Manage the Software & Engineering team at Headsprout, including two development teams, the IT staff, the DBA, technical support and a small special projects team (usually a single developer). 17 direct reports. • Manage the needs and expectations of the rest of the senior management team. Responsible for the quality and integrity of all efforts made by my staff on behalf of the company. • Products that my team produces or works on include: Headsprout Early Reading, Headsprout Reading Comprehension, the website, the primary customer portal, all performance reports, internal tools used by other departments, remotely deployed content devices, as well as the systems that serve the content. • Provide strategic guidance to the entire business in terms of new technologies, globalization and scalability. • Program Management. As the head of software and engineering at Headsprout, most product management duties also fell to me. Responsible for managing existing online products and worked with management team to design new ones. Helped define product strategy and roadmap. Tracked and prioritized feature requests and ensured existing products continued to improve, thus ensuring customer satisfaction. Worked with sales and marketing teams to ensure products were properly supported, and to ensure those teams had the tools they needed.

Responsibilities include all those of Lead HBO Engineer as well as the management of the network administrator, the help desk and all technical support teams. While my managerial duties consume much of my time I still make the time to engage in technical projects.Projects that I have enjoyed working on include:* Building and deploying a 3-node hadoop cluster using Ubuntu Server OS and Supermicro hardware. Also built a log aggregation server with Ubuntu which connects Windows and Linux based web servers over SMB and NFS. * Deploying a mediawiki server for the use of the technical team at Headsprout. The wiki uses mediawiki and php software on Windows 2003 server. The funnest part of this project is configuring all the add-ons: authentication, code syntax highlighting, To Do list functionality, etc.* Building and deploying an SVN server. The Subversion software runs on Red Hat Enterprise 5.3, and uses a shell script to achieve real time synchronization with another Red Hat server.* Deploying multiple network monitoring systems to help ensure uptime for the Headsprout servers and equipment. Software used, over time, includes What's Up Gold, Nagios and IP Monitor.* Deploying a BIND DNS server on Fedora Linux. This DNS server was used for many years until eventually replaced with Windows 2003 AD based DNS servers.* Building and deploying several web servers using Apache on various Linux distributions including Red Hat, Fedora and Ubuntu.

Responsibilities included deploying and maintaining 800+ remotely deployed Linux-based devices (HBO's), writing scripts in Perl and Python to gather diagnostics from HBO's, and remotely troubleshooting the devices when things went wrong.

Responsibilities included administering two corporate LAN's (one remote) consisting of Windows and Linux based servers & misc. devices; maintaining and troubleshooting Windows and Mac clients; and providing technical support to customers.

Responsibilities included overseeing the administration of a corporate LAN as well as a web hosting facility comprised of Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Linux based servers, and all devices necessary to support web hosting.
