My final role before going all in at Lobster Copy 🦞, working at Jarrett Digital was yet another trial by fire - this time in the world of PPC and CRO. After quickly developing my expertise in Google Ads, I became a mentor for new entrants to the business, as well as the business's go-to client landing page/CRO specialist.

I was among the final British participants of the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs scheme, which I undertook in conjunction with Upmarqt in the Netherlands. The scheme funded my work with Olga Ten at Upmarqt, and gave me the opportunity to work across her business's marketing operations, where I fine-tuned my skills as a marketing strategist and worked as her go-to copywriter and CRM manager.

At Upmarqt, I played a central role in shaping the company's ongoing content and email marketing strategy, as well as delivering the copy for these. I designed email funnels, ran the business's CRM, and wrote landing pages, hundreds of LinkedIn posts, and multiple SEO articles. Oh, and landing pages. Probably other stuff too. An epic experience.

Working at Poppy Grove LLC with Lisa Avila gave me an amazing exposure of copywriting in all its myriad forms, as well as content marketing and brand strategy. Together, we achieved some incredible feats including redesigning her different marketing funnels, launching a range of new products and offers, updating her brand voice, and writing a thought-leadership eBook tackling imposter syndrome for second-language entrepreneurs.

Returning to NILE in Norwich where I trained as a teacher - but this time employed as a training consultant - was a wonderful full-circle sort of experience. I worked with a range of students from Switzerland, and formed some fabulous new friendships with fellow teachers that I'm grateful for to this day.

Working with CARA, I provided one-on-one EAP tutoring to an exiled Syrian academic, helping him improve his academic English language and literacy skills so that he could access the UK's higher education system. An extremely rewarding chapter.

I was part of the senior management team at Coventry responsible for running the university's summer pre-sessional EAP course. This involved interviewing, onboarding, and training EAP tutors, as well as making sure course students were properly catered for. There was also a (very!) healthy dollop of assessment and course design.

Moving back to London, I lectured in EAP and professional skills across 6 different universities, a broad range of subject areas, and multiple tiers - from Foundation-level International Business courses to Master's degrees in cyber security. I progressed from a lecturer to a course leader, where I was responsible for course design and assessment.

My first permanent English for Academic Purposes role after graduating from UNNC in China, I developed my craft as a lecturer in EAP during conditions of lockdown in Ankara, Türkiye. A challenging time indeed, though an extremely formative one.

My first foray into being an EAP lecturer, I taught at the University of Aberdeen between my time as a primary teacher in Ningbo and undertaking my MA in TESOL at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China. A whirlwind of Scotland, stimulating teaching, and great new friends!

Two more years of primary teaching - this time at this K-12 bilingual school in Ningbo, China. Yet another life-changing experience, China opened my eyes to a culture and way of life completely different from what I had encountered up until this point. It also marked my transition from being a primary teacher to a lecturer in English for Academic Purposes.

Two very rewarding years as a Year 1 and 2 teacher at West Earlham Infant & Nursery School in Norwich, with a brief spell teaching Year 4 in Ormiston Herman Academy in Great Yarmouth. A real baptism of fire for me as a teacher joining mainstream primary education.

Wedged between Year 1 and 2 of my time on the Teach First Leadership Development Programme, I had the privilege of working as a teacher trainer and coach in Bwindi, southwest Uganda. Another inspiring country and people, and a place I know I'll return one day.

Working at the NGO Learn4Life in Siem Reap was my first experience of English language teaching after completing my CELTA in Norwich. I loved my time in Cambodia - such a beautiful place and people - and would go back in a heartbeat.

The hard work continues - this time as a Senior Chef de Partie at this busy hotel restaurant. A very tough experience indeed (think 18-hour days..), and very formative. But great people, and of course, great food!

More cooking, this time back in the UK at this holiday park up in beautiful North Norfolk - a time I'll never forget. Hard work, mind...

A 3-month stint at William Lawrence Camp in New Hampshire between my second and third year at the University of Sheffield. Lots of cooking and counselling work on camp. My first trip to the USA. Good times!
