SubHQ is field-friendly project management for subcontractors in the construction industry. I rebuilt an existing single-tenant app (Rails 3, Bootstrap) to be a multi-tenant app (Rails 5, Vue.js, GraphQL). I migrated the original tenant’s data over to the new multi-tenant data structure, and I launched the new app for the original tenant without any significant issues. I plan, manage, and review the work for the engineering team (3-4 devs). I am proudest of the engineering work to handle multi-tenant trade union pay rates based on trade, seniority level, location, distance, overtime, overrides, and other variables. Staffing Referrals is a referral platform to help staffing firms track, manage, and scale their leads, especially in the healthcare industry. I built many features, but I am proudest of the customized SMS text messaging system and other API work. Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, Postgres, Heroku, Redis, Sidekiq, REST APIs (including SendGrid, TextUs, Bullhorn ATS, and our own API).

Founded and ran the Item Factory, a content development house focused on educational assessment projects. In a typical month, my team produced thousands of assessment items (CCSS, PARCC, Smarter Balanced) for many publishers. My team also worked on non–item question projects, like writing passages, finding passages, or other content work.The Item Factory worked on many large projects for Measured Progress, Pearson, Riverside, Quarasan, Victory Productions, Words & Numbers, Lidget Green, and many others. This is not a full client list since some big names can't be printed here due to agreements. The Item Factory is now closed for business and will not be taking on any new projects.

Edited a weekly children’s newspaper, which was published at four grade levels: 2–3, 4–6, 7–8, and 9–12. Also edited the teacher and student materials that went with the newspaper.

Worked on two Houghton Mifflin basal reading programs: (1) converted an existing national K–5 program to Florida state standards, (2) created an entirely new K–4 basal reading program for California state standards.Wrote and edited content, interacted daily with client and vendors, developed guidelines and the scope-and-sequence documents, and managed dozens of freelance writers, editors, and quality-control workers.Worked on projects for many other clients, including Pearson Scott Foresman, Glencoe/McGraw-Hill, Sadlier, and the like.

Created educational materials, including teacher guides, children’s books, magazine articles, and (incredibly) a line of educational puppets. Edited a wide variety of award-winning teacher guides and home materials for Kindermusik curricula, including ABC Music & Me, Family Time, and Do-Re-Me & You! products.

Edited Zootles magazine, a bimonthly wildlife magazine for 2- to 6-year-olds, as well as the Zoobooks monthly e-newsletter.

Worked on an eight-week online differentiated reading program for grades 2–12. The program provided daily current-events articles at 10 Lexile reading levels and featured a targeted vocabulary scheme rooted in the EDL. For each article, at each reading level, there were unique reading comprehension questions, math questions, and other assessment tools for educators. Lesson plans and weekly writing extensions were included. Managed the project and produced all the content for the program on a 16-week timetable.
