Hearsay provides apps that modernize communications for client-facing financial services professionals with an underlying platform that scales to meet the needs of Fortune 500 financial institutions. Hearsay was backed by Sequoia Capital, NEA and Salesforce Ventures and acquired by Yext in August 2024.As an early employee, I built a bunch of core IP for the company, grew and ran a few different teams, and ultimately led the technology org as we evolved from a single product company to a multi-product and platform enterprise. Also, I got made fun of a lot for being grumpy.

Early engineer at Quantcast, an adtech pioneer that builds large-scale (petabytes) models of consumer behavior on the internet to increase efficiency for both publishers and advertisers.Built the first rev of Quantcast's advertiser-oriented product, Quantcast Marketer, from an Excel prototype all the way to production and led significant follow-on efforts as the company expanded from its original focus on publisher analytics. Along the way I learned many amazing (aggravating) things about distributed systems from some great technologists -- Quantcast was one of the earliest large-scale users of Hadoop and next-gen MPP data warehousing.

Led the initial rewrite of AdBrite's ad serving technology for their "2.0" relaunch. AdBrite was an independent marketplace for display and text ads connecting both major and long-tail publishers with advertisers. The rewrite focused on enabling features like dynamic auctions, global frequency capping, multi-dimensional ad targeting, etc. at scale. This system eventually served several billion ads a day (back in 2006, when that was a lot)
