I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy that has as its focus an in-depth exploration of early relationships and how they can impact the present. In terms of approach, this type of therapy tends to focus on the interpersonal relationship between the therapist and client and is eclectic, utilizing different techniques from different schools of psychotherapy.I have been in private practice since 1986. I see a wide range of clients – couples, teens, and adults. My specialty is helping individuals who suffer from depression and the whole spectrum of anxiety disorders.I have an MA from Columbia University in Social Work and an MA from the Jewish Theological Seminary in Jewish Studies. I received my BA in Literature from U.C. San Diego.

  Before going into private practice, I was the Director of “Project Homebase,” a program of Jewish Family Service which provided mobile psychiatric assessment and intervention for the homeless mentally ill. I was the school counselor of Pressman Academy Day School and taught social skills to children both within and outside the school environment. I also have experience working with the elderly in skilled nursing facilities and psychiatric day programs, and have worked in hospice care with the terminally ill.In recent years, I have found the theories and practice of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to be a welcome addition to my toolbox. CBT is a short-term, solutions-oriented form of therapy that emphasizes the role of thinking in how we feel and what we do. There is empirical evidence that CBT is effective for a variety of problems, including mood disorders, anxiety, personality disorders, and eating and substance abuse disorders. I have attended numerous workshops on CBT and employ it in my practice on a daily basis.I am a long-term practitioner of meditation and have participated in numerous retreats and workshops. Sharing my expertise as a meditator has been especially rewarding to me and beneficial to my clients.I am the proud father of three children and have been happily married since 1986.
